For the last time, Health IT Outcomes reviews the year that was in healthcare IT. Next year, we’ll be looking back as Health IT Outcomes!

With the New Year just around the corner, what better time to take a look back at what was resonating with the healthcare industry in 2013? Our Top 10 newsletter does a fantastic job of that with editor-in-chief Ken Congdon pointing out, “We witnessed the birth of CommonWell, the launch of Obamacare, and the resignation of yet another ONC chief. We also saw unprecedented progress on an IT front among healthcare providers.”

The Top 10 newsletter lists the following at the most popular New Features in 2013:

  1. iPad Receives Negative Reviews
  2. Why Physicians Prefer Apple Over Android
  3. ICD-10 Pilot Has Significant Setbacks
  4. Providers Reluctant To Communicate Through Email
  5. Is Obamacare Responsible For Demise Of Private Practices?

  7. One Quarter Of Hospitals In EMR Standstill
  8. Meaningful Use: Big Payout Or Burnout?
  9. ACOs: Healthcare's Future, Or An Inevitable Failure?
  10. Carelessness With Cloud Putting Providers At Risk

That list, however, includes only those News Features that appeared in a newsletter, excluding hundreds of other great pieces of content. So, without further delay, following are Top 10 News Features of 2013 based on the total number of times they were viewed on our site:

  1. Allscripts Lawsuit Serves As Warning To Physicians

Both lists are heavy on Apple and the iPad, but the list of stories readers found most engaging – stories they weren’t finding because of our newsletter – includes lawsuits, Medicare, and the current states of EHRs.
