Product Overview: Xerox DocuShare And EIP-Enabled Mulitfunction Printers

Walk through the halls of almost every one of the Northern California locations of Kaiser Permanente on any given day and you could hear a similar conversation. That's because the staff handles thousands of documents daily and needs immediate access to the most up-to- date hospital information – for example, in just the medical centers and business units of Northern California, this includes more than 500 medical forms, manuals, brochures, training materials and policy guidelines for compliance with Joint Commission on Healthcare Accreditation (JCAHO), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other standards. Access to this information is critical to the management and administration of a hospital.

WMMC called in WaterWare and Xerox to help set up a new system that would best benefit the patients by providing a single view of the patient's business/administrative records along with their medical records.

The combination of DocuShare Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software and WaterWare's Aquifer was the only solution WMMC found that could be customized to provide flexible search and retrieval using a variety of search criteria such as medical record number, date of birth, admission date, and more.

Now records and documents are managed in DocuShare, and Aquifer's HL7 (an EHRspecific standard) links the new data into the Cerner patient management system to provide one complete view.
