WellStar Health System's Center For Health Transformation Announce Strategic Investment In Sensiotec

WellStar Will Support Sensiotec Studies in Diverse Clinical Settings
Sensiotec Inc., a leading innovator in biosensor and digital health technology, and WellStar Health System, the largest not-for-profit health system in Georgia, recently jointly announced that Wellstar’s Center for Health Transformation (CHT) has made a strategic equity investment in Sensiotec. This transaction marks the first direct investment by CHT in a health technology company, and expands the technical and go-to-market collaboration that exists between the Sensiotec and CHT. In conjunction with the investment, CHT will deploy Sensiotec’s Virtual Medical Assistant in diverse clinical settings, such as sleep labs, long term care residential care, post-hospital discharge home care and pediatric units, for a variety of uses. As the fifth most integrated U.S. healthcare delivery network, WellStar offers key settings within which to demonstrate the clinical applications of VMA.
VMA is a radar-based biosensing platform and is the world’s first FDA 510(k) Class II-cleared, truly non-contact, patient monitoring solution. VMA provides continuous monitoring for early diagnosis and intervention, improves quality of care and enhances patient safety. From a sensor panel located under the patient’s bed or chair, VMA continuously streams information on internal organ motion, patient movement and bed occupancy to any number of smart devices. The technology’s non-contact nature enables it to capture large data sets over extended periods of time to identify cardiorespiratory instability, bed fall risk, patient agitation and pressure ulcers. This has applications for population health in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases across the cardiorespiratory and musculoskeletal systems.
Re-envisioned in 2012 by WellStar’s leadership, CHT endeavors to leverage the collaborative efforts of healthcare systems, educational institutions and business organizations, combining their collective expertise to solve the most vexing problems facing today’s healthcare establishments. The first of its kind in WellStar’s history, CHT’s new strategic investment in Sensiotec stemmed from the organization’s evaluation of 60 technology companies – all of which competed for the opportunity to team with WellStar. CHT chose Sensiotec based on the VMA’s potential to improve clinical outcomes and reduce costs across the care continuum, whether for a patient is in the hospital, in long-term care or at home.
“Center for Health Transformation was founded to increase collaboration in healthcare while increasing access and lowering cost,” stated Steven Fraime, Project Manager for Center for Health Transformation. “Our strategic investment in Sensiotec will help fulfill these goals.”
“We are delighted by WellStar’s investment in Sensiotec and CHT’s strong support,” stated Robert Arkin, CEO and founder of Sensiotec. “We fully expect that our work with WellStar and CHT will provide important evidence-based protocol development for our technology platform, greatly accelerate its commerical adoption, propel our Company’s growth and improve our commitment to improving quality of care and lowering cost.”
Dr. Jiten Chhabra, Sensiotec’s Medical Director and Product Manager added, “As we are the world’s first group to collect radar data on the human physiology, we have exciting times ahead. Over the next year, our team of physicians and signal processing engineers expects to develop three to five proprietary continuous scoring systems that will change how chronic diseases and preventable medical errors are monitored across the world.”
