Wearable Technology Takes Center Stage At 2014 mHealth Summit -- From Glasses And Sensors To Watches, Armbands And More

Leaders From National Institutes of Health and Microsoft to Deliver Opening Keynotes Focused on Wearables

Washington, DC /PRNewswire/ - mHealth Summit and the Intelligent Health Association today announced that Wendy J. Nilsen, Ph.D, health scientist administrator, National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research, and Bill Crounse, MD, senior director of Worldwide Health, Microsoft, will deliver opening keynote presentations at Wearable Healthcare: Google Glass, Smart Watches and Beyond. This co-located event is taking place Dec. 10 as part of the 2014 mHealth Summit. The mHealth Summit is the largest global conference and expo focused on the intersection of mobile/wireless and healthcare delivery, taking place Dec. 7-11 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in the Washington, D.C. area.

Dr. Nilsen's presentation will focus on the science of human behavior and behavior change, highlighting how wearables and other forms of mobile technology can help individuals better understand and improve health, increase adherence, and enhance the mechanisms for behavior change and behavioral interventions in consumers and patients with multiple chronic conditions.

Dr. Crounse will share lessons learned about healthcare, technology, business and human behavior, as well as best practices in health IT. "One thing is certain, the next decade will bring about new technologies and shocking changes that will fundamentally reshape the practice of medicine and the ways people access and consume healthcare services," said Dr. Crounse. "The effect on healthcare providers and institutions as we know them today is likely to be profound."

Additional sessions at the Wearable Healthcare event will highlight wearable products and technologies within the context of case studies, demonstrations and evidence of outcomes.  The program will also focus on innovations and deployment within the Intelligent Medical Home, including technology selection, interoperability and practical implementations; business models, ROI and partnerships; as well as clinical workflow, outcomes measurement  and  privacy and security.
