Through the collaboration, the hospital will have access to Mayo Clinic specialists as well as archived grand rounds and the ability to consult on complex cancer cases.

The Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington has been selected as a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network. Inclusion in the Mayo Clinic Care Network (MCCN) will provide the medical staff at the Virginia Hospital Center (VMC) with a number of new tools.

The eConsults service will allow VMC physicians to connect electronically with specialists and sub-specialists at the Mayo Clinic if additional input is needed for a patient’s care. AskMayoExpert provides VMC with “point-of-care medical information” on disease management, care guidelines, treatment recommendations, and reference materials for a variety of medical conditions, all compiled by Mayo Clinic physicians. eTumor Board Conferences will allow VMC physicians to present complex cancer cases to physicians at the Mayo Clinic and discuss case management.

Inclusion in the MCCN will also give VMC providers the opportunity to consult on operational and business processes and the ability to access the Mayo Clinic library of patient education materials and archived grand rounds that feature presentations by Mayo physicians and scientists, according to the news release.

The MCCN represents non-ownership relationships, according to the news release. The network was launched in 2011 and includes 32 member organizations in 19 states, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.

The Mayo Clinic is a non-profit medical organization with major campuses in Rochester, MN, Scottsdale and Phoenix, AZ., and Jacksonville, FL. The larger organization, the Mayo Clinic Health System, has multiple locations in several states.

Virginia Hospital Center is a not-for-profit, teaching facility with 342 beds. The organization provides specialty care in cardiology, women and infant health, urology, and more.
