Video Solution Eases Radiation Patients Worries

Video Solution For Radiation patients

Renowned Cancer Center uses a cinematic, patient-centric technology to ease the stresses radiation therapy puts on those receiving it.

Patients receiving radiation treatments often endure stressful sessions. One Arizona cancer center is trying to make those treatments a little more comfortable by installing in-ceiling panels in its treatment rooms.

Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert, AZ has successfully completed its implementation of the NORVISION "Skylite" In-ceiling Video-wall that projects calming imagery and serene videos to patients receiving radiation therapy. “This is the first time this has been done in radiation therapy rooms,” said Don May, VP at NORVISION.

Upon entering the radiation therapy room, the patient selects scenes from a digital media library. Once the treatment begins, hospital technicians start the content loop via a wireless tablet. Content is automatically updated by adding media to cloud-based storage systems such as Dropbox or Goggle Drive.

Standard electronics and LCD screens fail in the radiation-rich environment. The solution was to recess and protect building-block style MicroTiles, manufactured by display company Christie Digital. Imagery is processed through a tablet app that manages content displayed on each of the digital panels.

Banner Health and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center opened the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2011 on the campus of Banner Gateway Medical Center in Gilbert, Arizona.

Prior to the implementation within the actual treatment room for patients, NORVISION Digital Signage hospital solutions were used primarily for in-house announcements and patient communications, in areas such as waiting-rooms and lobbies.
