Vidant Health Adopts Proficient Health Solution For Referral Management

Cloud-based service will eliminate paper and streamline how the health system manages clinical orders faxed by physicians.

Recently Proficient Health, a privately held company specializing in information technology solutions for the healthcare industry, announced that the company has been selected by Vidant Health to automate how physician orders are received and managed. 

Proficient Orders, a cloud-based service from Proficient Health, will be used system-wide by nine Vidant hospitals serving 29 counties and 1.4M people in eastern North Carolina. Among them is Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

The 110,000 faxed pages of referrals the health system receives each month will be captured automatically by Proficient Orders as electronic images – easy to track, access and share online through a secure Web portal. Images also will be available for export to the health system’s electronic medical records platform as part of a patient’s personal health record. 

Albemarle Health and Vidant Roanoke-Chowan hospitals, both part of Vidant Health, have been using Proficient Orders for about two years. The decision to adopt the service system-wide was based on the significant benefits realized by both facilities. Patient access professionals say the solution has saved time and has eliminated problems with lost or misplaced paper. Instead each order arrives in an online inbox where it is easily located, retrieved and managed with a few simple keystrokes.

The Proficient Health solution for Vidant Health is expected to go live this month.
