Western Colorado Expands Health Information Exchange to Improve Quality of Health Care
Quality Health Network (QHN), announced recently that Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs and Pioneers Medical Center in Meeker, join 162 health care organizations in Western Colorado that utilize the QHN Health Information Exchange (HIE). QHN HIE electronically delivers clinical information to the point of care and integrates patient information from laboratory results, radiology reports, E.R. reports, progress notes, medications lists and a whole host of other critical patient data. Physicians of Valley View Hospital and Pioneers Medical Center will have secure access to electronically exchange and share clinical patient information and medication history with the health care providers, across the region, caring for a patient.
Dr. Greg Reicks, QHN's board president, noted that "hospitals are key to ensuring that the right information is available at the right time, when a doctor and the patient need it--whether that's at a hospital ER or the physician's office. We welcome Valley View and Pioneers Medical Center to QHN."
QHN unites more than 600 providers and 2,440 online users in 20 Western Colorado counties improving their ability to deliver quality outcomes and enhance care management for the 465,000 residents. Axolotl, now OptumInsight, the leaders for standards based interoperability and connectivity, powers the real time clinical messaging infrastructure that allows authorized physicians to share clinical data at the point of care between and among various hospital and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
Ken Harman, CEO at Pioneers Medical Center, is proud of the friendly, personal care his hospital provides. "Our mission is to lead the effort to improve the health and well-being of the residents of eastern Rio Blanco County. By participating in the QHN HIE, Pioneers Medical Center will connect with the larger health care facilities in the region and provide our physicians with real-time access to complete patient information at the point of care."
Pioneers Medical Center (PMC) offers a Level IV Emergency Room/Trauma Center to stabilize and treat emergency patients. PMC performs proactive health services such as cancer screenings, child wellness, women wellness, and much more. PMC has collaborative relationships with St Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction and Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs.
Ron Hines, Director of Information Technology at Glenwood's Valley View Hospital noted that, "This partnership [with QHN] will strategically position Valley View Hospital to meet the requirements of "Meaningful Use" and further illustrates our commitment to delivering exceptional patient care."
