Using An Evidence-Based Framework To Cross The CPOE Adoption Divide
As a result of embracing an evidence-based culture, McLaren Port Huron has seen its CPOE rates swell to well over 80 percent.
Computerized physician order entry (CPOE) is a core measure in Meaningful Use (MU). In fact, it’s the first core measure listed in Stage 1. And if popular studies of healthcare executives and providers are true, CPOE represents one of the most significant barriers to achieving MU.
For this reason alone, optimizing CPOE adoption is a key initiative for most hospitals. McLaren Port Huron has implemented an evidence-based framework to address this CPOE adoption challenge. This framework consists of more than just technology, but key process improvements as well.
McLaren Port Huron deployed this evidence-based care guidance with goals of building an infrastructure ready to handle process improvement and clinical transformation initiatives. Ultimately, the provider wanted to gain a better understanding of the value of standardized evidence-based practice to drive performance improvement.
