Top Social Media Hospitals

Nurse Journal has named the top social media friendly hospitals in the US, and the Mayo Clinic once again scores the top position.

The top 100 social media friendly hospitals have been named by Nurse Journal; and according to Becker’s Hospital Review the following hospitals made up the top 10:

  1. Mayo Clinic
  2. Cleveland Clinic
  3. Baylor Regional Medical Center in Texas
  4. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston
  5. University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center
  6. Rush University Medical Center in Chicago
  7. Houston Methodist Hospital
  8. Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City
  9. University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers
  10. Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago

This marks the second year in a row that the Mayo Clinic has clinched the top spot. According to iHealth Beat, the Mayo Clinic had:

  • 538,061 Facebook likes/fans
  • 26,871 Facebook check-ins
  • 26,545 Facebook mentions
  • 17,708 Tweets
  • 858,932 Twitter followers
  • 1,783 Twitter users it was following
  • 9,086 Twitter mentions

Scores were assigned to hospitals based on check-ins, fans, and likes on Facebook as well as tweets and followers on Twitter. Also taken into account was the number of users talking about the facility on Facebook, the users the facility was following on each platform, and the number of times the facility was mentioned on Twitter.

“We assigned scores for each type of activity, with a total of 100 possible – 50 for Facebook and 50 for Twitter. While other social media platforms are important to note, we wanted to focus on the two most common and widely used in medical communication,” said Nurse Journal, which reviewed over 800 hospitals this year.
