When it comes to the future of document capture, it is hard to fully predict what will happen and when it will happen, and for those of us in the document capture industry, this is hard to swallow.
As we have moved into the age of the knowledge worker, more and more organizations are looking to spend less time entering and processing form data. They want a better way to manage forms; this begins with paper reduction.
The End of Paper
The era of entering data on a paper form, sending the form to a central processing site, and someone entering the data into a computer is quickly coming to an end as most organizations are attempting to find ways to capture data at the source. If you take a hard look at the amount of paper in mailrooms, you will see many companies are experiencing a drop in volume by 50% or more. Does this mean that paper will soon be completely gone? While it’s highly unlikely, we must recognize that any organization striving to be more efficient will need to utilize electronic forms.
