Case Study: Greenville Hospital System Selects Kofax Intelligent Capture & Exchange To Automate The Processing Of Insurance Records

Source: Kofax

Greenville Hospital System's (GHS) renowned medical team provides world-class care through a network of five state-of-the-art campuses and several outpatient treatment and wellness centers located throughout South Carolina's upstate region. Dedicated to furthering medicine through education and research, GHS has an extensive teaching program and participates in hundreds of clinical trials each year. The teaching program is affiliated with the Medical University of South Carolina, the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, and Duke University.

Kofax Intelligent Capture & Exchange, the foundation for Kofax's strategy to help organizations streamline business processes, was implemented to reduce the time and improve the accuracy of collecting more than 800 patient Explanation of Benefits (EOB) insurance forms that are entered each week into the hospital's Patient Financial System. Prior to the Kofax system, the data entry procedure typically required 8-10 hours per week to enter EOB forms into the system, due to the large number of individual patient payment detail items within each form. With the new system, that processing time has been cut to less than one hour for the same number of forms.

"The GHS typically receives EOB forms from insurance providers that reach hundreds of pages in length and provide detailed payment information on specific patients. It was critical to incorporate an information capture system that would ensure data accuracy, reduce the time associated with manual entry, address security concerns and be flexible enough to handle a wide array of multi-page forms," said Brad Moody, senior information systems manager at the GHS. "Kofax Intelligent Capture & Exchange enabled us to speed our internal payment cycles by more than a week, which represented a clear return on our investment."
