Provider-To-Provider Response Time Cut Using Clinical Communications Platform

By Karla Paris

Physicians can more easily connect with one another allowing them to focus on what really matters – providing excellent patient care.

In an effort to integrate a comprehensive clinical communication solution that filters and delivers pertinent information to physicians and other providers to ensure timely interaction, Michigan-based Genesys Health System partnered with PerfectServe to streamline clinical communications across its organization.

Beginning in January 2015, Genesys will be implementing PerfectServe Clinician-to-Clinician and PerfectServe DocLink. Once implemented, Genesys clinicians will more easily connect to the right provider, in the right way, at the right moment in time. Other hospitals that have implemented the PerfectServe have experienced dramatic reductions in response times, from 46 minutes to 15 minutes, enabling clinicians to get in touch with their colleagues faster, speeding the time to intervention, and reducing delays in care.

With PerfectServe Clinician-to-Clinician calls and messages route automatically and securely – according to each clinician’s precise instructions. PerfectServe assembles and maintains the communications workflow, call schedules, and contact preferences for every medical staff member, for every moment of every day. With PerfectServe Clinician-to-Clinician, call centers, answering services, Post-It Notes, Rolodexes, web directories, binders, and lists are eliminated – along with any potential for communication breakdown.

Genesys will also be using PerfectServe DocLink to facilitate physician-to-physician communication and collaboration by allowing both real-time conversations and secure text messaging in a HIPAA-compliant environment. With PerfectServe DocLink, Genesys’ physicians connect with one another quickly without having to search for phone numbers or navigate through switchboards, answering services, or front-office staff.

Using PerfectServe DocLink, Genesys is able to establish a private and secure communications network that connects every medical staff member. Physicians have immediate and direct access to one another.

Genesys is a regionally integrated health care delivery system comprised of a complete continuum of care primarily servicing Genesee, Shiawassee, Lapeer, Oakland, Livingston, and Tuscola counties with an additional four counties in the secondary market. More than 140 family physicians in the Genesys network act as health advocates offering ready resource to outpatient ambulatory care, physical medicine treatment, and mental health services. The system is anchored by Genesys Regional Medical Center at Health Park, a 410-bed hospital built around a patient-focused care philosophy.
