Methodist Hospital aims to leverage video to promote safe medication use, reduce readmission rates
Methodist Hospital, a general medical and surgical facility located on the banks of the Ohio River in Henderson, KY, has selected VUCA Health’s MedsOnCue as a patient engagement gateway for its outpatient pharmacy. The deployment of the solution is expected to extend the hospital’s relationship with its patients as on-demand videos and other tools deliver prescription-specific information to promote safe medication use.
Serving a three-county area in western Kentucky as well as surrounding counties in southern Illinois and southern Indiana, Community United Methodist Hospital, Inc., is a comprehensive healthcare system that operates Methodist Hospital, with 192 beds, as well as sister facility, Methodist Hospital Union County, with 25 beds. Fifteen physician offices also provide outpatient services. Awarded the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval in 2011, the religious-affiliated hospital's focus is on providing “safe, compassionate, high-quality, and cost-effective services that address the mental, spiritual, and physical needs, and work to improve the health status of the people in the communities served.”
Utilizing the MedsOnCue system will link Methodist Hospital’s patients to thousands of medication-specific video briefings which can be viewed on mobile devices or on the web, and to web messaging, reminders/alerts, and images of medications. By scanning QR codes on prescription labels or information sheets, patients will receive information in English or Spanish on proper usage, expected benefits, and potential side effects. “MedsOnCue brings a powerful and innovative digital element to our patient education strategy, one that we expect to help reduce readmission rates by improving medication safety and keeping patients engaged in their care even after they leave the hospital,” said Brent Bridges, PharmD, Director of Pharmacy at Methodist Hospital.
VUCA Health’s patient information solution leverages patient information videos and communications to provide reinforcement of proper medication usage and strengthen customer relationships. “Methodist Hospital exemplifies the kind of innovative healthcare that understands the value a digital experience brings to the patient education process, in particular the ability to influence safe medication use,” said CEO of VUCA Health, David Medvedeff, PharmD, MBA.
