Fair Oaks Women’s Health (FOWH) moved to a larger facility in early 2009 to accommodate the addition of a third doctor. Shortly after relocating, the practice lost the full-time services of its long-time biller, who began working part-time from home due to illness. The growing practice’s increased cash requirements for payroll and rent soon met with decreasing attention to billing, and the practice was operating in the red within a few months.

The need for an immediate course correction on billing caused the practice to focus on engaging a service rather than hiring another biller. “We didn’t have a lot of time to come up with a solution,” said Bryan Jick, MD, FACOG, and owner of FOWH. “We were in trouble financially and needed a correction fast.”
