Physician-Owned Specialty Practice Simplifies Meaningful Use
In a physician-owned practice, such as the Minneapolis Clinic of Neurology (MCN), successfully adopting mandates for change can be difficult. But seeing the value of a modern electronic health record to support their delivery of coordinated, best-practice care, MCN escaped its world of paper charts and an outdated practice management system to a new fully integrated and fully function EHR/practice management solution.
MCN provides comprehensive neurology and physical therapy services through its Golden Valley, MN main office, 4 satellite offices, and 40 outreach locations throughout greater Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Services include adult and pediatric general neurology, subspecialty neurology programs, neurodiagnostic testing, rehabilitation services, neuropsychology and psychology.
Once the new EHR/PM solution was in place, the clinic began the process to attest to meaningful use within just a few months so that it could qualify for federal incentive funds. The challenge uncovered by MCN was how to track and prove meaningful use across so many providers and locations. The new, fully functional EHR suite, coupled with its dashboarding capabilities, helped the physician’s and staff quickly overcome this hurdle.
Among the benefits of MCN’s integrated solution were:
- Easy tracking of all MU metrics to enable attestation
- 31 of its 34 physicians have already attested to stage 1 Meaningful Use and have received funds
- Anywhere, anytime access to patient information – from clinics, patient homes, and more
- Transcription costs have been reduced by 45%
