Philips Showcases Respiratory Care Hospital-To-Home Solutions
Hosts breakfast symposium based on ventilation management program aimed at reducing overall healthcare costs associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
Philips Respironics, a division of Royal Philips , will showcase its innovative range of respiratory care solutions at the American Association of Respiratory Care Congress, Booth 118, in Las Vegas, December 9-12, 2014. In addition to exhibiting at the event, Philips will sponsor a breakfast symposium highlighting Barnes Healthcare Services’ ventilation management program that demonstrates late-stage COPD patients are benefiting from the use of noninvasive ventilation with Trilogy100, and aids in reducing overall healthcare costs. The symposium, titled “Therapy-driven COPD management program successful in reducing hospital admissions,” will take place on Thursday, December 11, at 7:15 a.m. EST, at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, South Seas Ballroom F.
In the U.S., more than 12 million adults have been diagnosed with COPD, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports as the country’s third leading cause of death. Caring for COPD patients places a significant financial burden on the healthcare system, with the majority of costs resulting from hospitalizations for acute exacerbation of the disease. Furthermore, as of October 1, 2014, the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has begun to financially penalize hospitals if 30-day readmission rates for COPD are higher than expected – making proactive management of patients with COPD a critical issue for healthcare providers.
“Philips is committed to providing end-to-end solutions across the health continuum to reduce readmissions and ease the financial burden effective respiratory care places on the healthcare industry,” said Eli Diacopoulos, general manager, Respiratory Care, Philips Respironics. “The success of Barnes Healthcare Services is testament this commitment and we’re looking forward to working with other healthcare organizations to implement programs like this one, which focus on improving the care of COPD patients while helping to drive down the cost of healthcare.”
