Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems Expands Prognosis HIS Partnership To Achieve Single-Vendor Platform

Missouri provider to implement enterprise clinical and financial system to improve care, billing and data exchange

Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems (PMHS), a 261-bed, Hayti, Mo.-based health system, is expanding its partnership with Prognosis Health Information Systems. The multi-site provider is acquiring the company's financial system to complement its existing Prognosis HIS electronic health record (EHR). The investment, which also includes the purchase of Prognosis' laboratory information system, powered by Orchard, is part of the provider's long-term enterprise plan to standardize health information technology infrastructure onto a single-vendor platform.

"Adding Prognosis' financial system with the Prognosis EHR that we successfully implemented two years ago will improve our ability to deliver high-quality care and streamline data exchange efficiencies, especially in the emergency department," said Kerry Noble, CEO at PMHS. "The enterprise solution also means having one vendor to maintain and upgrade the technology as well as keep pace with industry changes. We are committed to continuing our partnership with the industry's leading clinical and financial IT provider for rural and community health care. Our mutual goals focus on providing the highest quality and best experience for our patient community in southeast Missouri."

Issues with Pemiscot's current legacy financial system cause patients to be assigned more than one medical record number. That problem has trickled downstream to cause multiple billing statements and other issues. The complication has put PMHS at risk of being mistakenly accused of filing fraudulent insurance claims with Medicare and commercial payers.

Prognosis' comprehensive financial solution encompasses registration, scheduling, general ledger, accounts payable, patient accounting, reports, human resources management, claims processing, materials management and other revenue cycle features to help the hospital's billing team complete day-to-day tasks with efficiency. The system connects the financial and clinical departments to ensure charges are accurately captured so hospitals are reimbursed for care delivered.

"We're excited to grow our valued relationship with Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems to the next level of financial performance and profitability," said Ramsey Evans, CEO of Prognosis HIS. "When combined, our Web-native clinical and financial system platform aggregates multiple levels of patient data to simplify and advance a hospital's IT infrastructure to ensure continued regulatory compliance and smoother care and billing coordination."
