Overlake Medical Center To Rely On Summit Healthcare When Migrating To Epic
Washington nonprofit moving to leading Electronic Health Record (EHR) system
Summit Healthcare, a leading provider of healthcare system integration and workflow automation solutions, has been working with Overlake Medical Center to migrate its operations from eCW, Medinformatics, MEDITECH, PICIS and Pulsecheck to Epic by spring of 2013.
Overlake is in the process of discontinuing its eClinical Works EHR physician product in favor of the Epic ambulatory system. This project will install a physician-friendly system that will improve performance and patient safety by providing an integrated EHR across the continuum of care. KLAS Enterprises has ranked EpicCare EHR the No. 1 system in its category for the past 14 years.
To take advantage of this system, Overlake has relied on Summit Healthcare to conduct the integration process. Overlake has maintained a relationship with Summit Healthcare since 2008, when the two organizations worked in concert to migrate 140 existing interfaces from the MS Accelerator Engine to the Summit Express Connect interface engine.
This interface engine was used for Overlake’s MEDITECH HCIS integration and will carry over to the new Epic HCIS system with Summit’s guidance. Among the systems to be integrated are ICU monitoring, fetal monitoring, pathology, ePrescribing, the immunization registry, pharmacy robotics and many more.
The integration process will require the addition of several new interfaces as well as the discontinuation of others, as Epic offers different Modules than MEDITECH or eCW’s systems. Summit will provide project management and engineering expertise, overseeing the work of an integrated Summit/Overlake team of 5 interface programmers as they pursue the necessary conversion processes. With Summit Healthcare’s years of experience and unparalleled commitment to service, this entire migration is scheduled to take only 12 months and is expected to go live in the spring. The clinics and associated interfaces went live on February 1, 2013 with many temporary interfaces that will be discontinued when the hospital goes live in the spring.
Additionally, Summit Healthcare will provide support in the future to ensure Overlake’s new system is deployed properly and continues to function after installation.
"After years of partnering with Summit Healthcare to support our HCIS integration needs, it was important for us to maintain the level of professionalism, service and trust when we decided to migrate to the new Epic system." said Jody Albright, VP Information Services, Overlake Medical Center.
" Summit Healthcare is excited about the opportunity to expand our partnership with Overlake as they prepare for their migration to Epic," said Ted Rossi, CEO, Summit Healthcare. "We are proud to share our expertise and technology with Overlake in an effort to help them achieve success."
