New McKesson Enterprise Scheduling Application Enhances Physician Alignment
Company’s first SaaS-based scheduling solution improves workflow, efficiency
When leaders at Gwinnett Health Services in Atlanta, Ga. decided to streamline and automate the organization’s physician communications, they turned to McKesson’s new enterprise-wide scheduling application. Now generally available, McKesson Enterprise Scheduling Professional Gateway is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution that offers scheduling access to physicians via the Internet. The solution is designed to reduce opportunities for errors and risks to patient safety often associated with more traditional, manual processes.
An extension to McKesson’s market-leading enterprise scheduling system, Pathways Healthcare Scheduling, the new module enables healthcare organizations to extend scheduling services quickly in a cost effective and secure manner to any physician office. By automating access management capabilities, hospitals can improve operational efficiencies and better connect physicians with areas of the organization that have the greatest impact on clinical and financial performance.
“We are focused on physician alignment strategies that are not only cost effective, but that also enhance the patient experience,” said Beth Grimes, director of surgical services at Gwinnett. “This new scheduling application offers seamless communication with physician offices as well as the ability to connect those offices to our various departments. We expect the application to help us improve patient safety and our ability to capture revenue.”
With the capabilities of the new solution, physician office staff members no longer have to spend valuable time on the phone with hospitals to schedule appointments or clarify patient procedures. These workflow improvements also mean that the hospital can better support its physician outreach strategies by extending the solution to remote physician referral locations, increasing their ability to capture associated revenues.
Chris Bauleke, president of McKesson’s Health Systems Performance Management division, said the new scheduling solution is characteristic of McKesson’s Better Health 2020 initiative, which is designed to help healthcare providers achieve better patient care, better business health and better connectivity.
“We are committed to helping customers like Gwinnett Health Services thrive by strengthening their connectivity with providers and improving information-sharing across their network,” said Bauleke. “Not only can Gwinnett drive efficiencies in their access management processes, they can positively impact their physician alignment and outreach strategies while enhancing revenues and clinical performance."
