New HIMSS North America Board Members Take Office
The new members of the HIMSS North America Board were elected in November 2013 to take office in July 2014, the start of the new fiscal year for HIMSS North America
New members of the HIMSS North America Board of Directors begin their terms on July 1 each year. Now, as the new HIMSS North America Board Chair,Paul Kleeberg, MD, FAAFP, FHIMSS, leads this group of dedicated and experienced directors through June 30, 2015.
Dr. Kleeberg is chief medical informatics officer for Stratis Health, a non-profit quality improvement organization in Bloomington, Minn. He is also clinical director for REACH, the Regional Extension Assistance Center for HIT, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to help small hospitals and primary care providers in Minnesota and North Dakota adopt and become meaningful users of electronic health records.
A member of the HIMSS Board since 2011, he also chaired the HIMSS Patient Safety and Quality Outcomes Committee, one of his many volunteer leadership roles for the organization. As the HIMSS North America Board Chair, he brings both his expertise and his passion to this position.
“My passions for improving healthcare delivery include patient or person empowerment and increased access to interoperable health IT for those not part of the meaningful use incentives, such as nursing homes, home care, mental health and public health. I also will be an advocate for the needs of rural health providers that may have had access to incentive dollars, but did not have the wherewithal to adapt and optimize information technology as some of the larger health systems,” says Dr. Kleeberg.
Dr. Kleeberg replaces Scott MacLean, CHCIO, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, Deputy CIO and Director of IS Operations at Partners HealthCare in Boston, Mass. Other board members whose terms have expired include Carol Steltenkamp, MD, MBA, FHIMSS, CMIO, vice chair of the board; Kathleen C Kimmel, RN, MHA, CPHIMS, FHIMSS; Richard D. Lang, Ed.D., PMP, FHIMSS; and Liaison member Judy Murphy, RN, FACMI, FAAN, FHIMSS; and Advisory member Geeta Nayyar, MD, MBA.
Chair-Elect and Vice Chair-Elect: The chair-elect is Dana Alexander RN, MSN, MBA, FAAN, FHIMSS, Vice President Integrated Care Delivery & Chief Nursing Officer, Caradigm. Pete Shelkin, MSHA, CISSP, PMP, FHIMSS, moves from Vice Chair-Elect to Vice Chair. Vice-chair elect is Fred D. Rachman, MD, FHIMSS, Chief Executive Officer, Alliance of Chicago Community Health Services.
