MRO Corp. Launches Patient Portal Technology To Hospitals And Health Systems
Online communication platform integrated into release-of-information system, allows direct patient access to records and assists with hospital meaningful use attestation
MRO Corp., a leader in disclosure management services and applications for healthcare organizations, recently announced the availability of integrated patient portal technology into the company’s release-of-information software, ROI Online. MRO’s patient portals are hospital-branded and designed specifically to suit the individual needs of the healthcare facilities and their patients. The portal websites allow patients to easily utilize a secure platform to access their health information.
In late 2011, MRO began development of patient portals for select hospital clients seeking to fulfill demands for online patient access to records, and is now offering the technology to all hospitals. As a result of implementing the portal software, hospitals are able to meet meaningful use stage one inpatient criteria (170.306) (d) and (e) that require hospitals to provide patients with timely access to electronic copies of health information and electronic copies of discharge instructions.
“Our patient portal technology help hospitals achieve successful attestation of stage one meaningful use, as well as prepare to meet proposed stage two requirements,” said David Borden, MRO’s chief technology officer. “Promoting patient engagement is strongly emphasized within the proposed stage two measures, and mandatory use of patient portal technology is on the horizon. Being on the cusp of assisting hospitals in the ever-changing climate of regulatory compliance has always been a pillar of ours.”
Currently, to meet stage one meaningful use requirements hospitals must provide patients with electronic copies of their health information within three business days; and, availability to electronic copies of their discharge instructions at the time of discharge. During stage two, healthcare organizations will be required to provide at least 50 percent of patients with direct online access to their health information within 36 hours of discharge. The proposed rule also requires providers to prove that at least 10 percent of all discharged patients use a patient portal to view, download or transmit their health information.
While MRO’s patient portal solution currently offers online access to electronic copies of health information and discharge instructions within required time constraints, the company is augmenting the capabilities of the portal to deliver additional functionalities such as providing HIPAA consent and restriction management, recorded advance directives, patient education information, and other information and data required by regulations.
