Momentum Building For HIMSS Innovation Center's Vision And Capabilities
HIMSS Innovation Center continues to build momentum as HIMSS collaborates with increasing numbers of key industry leaders in health information technology (IT) to optimize health engagements and care outcomes. Recently HIMSS announces six new collaborators and enhanced offerings at the 30,000-square-foot facility located on Cleveland’s lakefront.
HIMSS is also now offering a comprehensive interoperability testing and certification program - ConCert by HIMSS which enables EHR and HIE vendors committed to advancing interoperability and enabling secure, reliable transfer of data within and across organizational and state boundaries, to achieve a seal of approval. This advancement toward finely-tuned interoperability solutions builds on the work of the EHR|HIE Interoperability Workgroup and Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) USA. The HIMSS Innovation Center provides a road map to both vendors and providers seeking interoperability and facilitates access to testing tools, resources and subject matter experts.
Selecting certified systems will reduce the need for costly interfaces and the ConCert by HIMSS program is backed by highly trusted industry organizations. IHE has been harmonizing standards into technical profiles since 1998. This certification program allows the market to capitalize on efficiencies gained from combining IHE profiles into constrained specifications that enable a system’s ability to effectively exchange health data. ICSA Labs, an ONC-Authorized Certification Body, has been selected as the certification entity for this effort. Supporting this program is a way for HIMSS to perpetuate industry innovation by enabling interoperable solutions that providers and patients deserve.
“Our vision at the HIMSS Innovation Center is to provide a virtual and physical destination where healthcare vendors, providers and consumers can collaborate to solve common challenges, create innovative solutions and develop beneficial relationships,” said John Paganini, HIMSS Senior Manager of Interoperability Initiatives.
The state-of-the-art HIMSS Innovation Center houses a 12,000 square foot technology showcase where HIMSS collaborators demonstrate their value as industry leaders through an interactive HIMSS Health Journey. HIMSS Health Journeys represent stories that show how a clinical continuum of care is improved through the better use of technology. Visitors can tour the center to learn about hot topics in health IT through demonstrations, trivia games, and a historical timeline that dates back to the 1800’s. The HIMSS mobile app acts as an interactive tour guide for the HIMSS Innovation Center and features learning modules that can be accessed virtually.
HIMSS15 attendees will be able to download the app and learn more about the HIMSS Innovation Center andConCert by HIMSS at the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase, South Building, Hall A, Booth 2084. Presentations at the HIMSS Spot – 1 to 1:30 p.m., April 13, and 11:30 a.m. to noon, April 15 will focus on how ConCert by HIMSS will advance health and healthcare by helping vendors deliver better products and taking the guess work out of provider system selection.
