There is a growing concern in the healthcare community regarding healthcare acquired infections as studies continue to produce disturbing statistics showing their high cost, in terms of both unreimbursed dollars and patient lives. The result of Midbrook's efforts is the Tempest washer, which uses a combination of digital ultrasonic agitation and power flushing of the interior lumen with enzymatic detergent to clean cannulated instruments to the point that they can be sterilized.

Along with the Tempest, Midbrook Medical has also introduced the MediCount ATP Testing System. This handheld unit measures adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the chemical substance that powers reactions within cells. A high amount of ATP on a surface indicates the presence of potentially harmful bacteria. The MediCount is used to test the amount of ATP on a surface, and provide an easy to read result. This result can then be placed into the software program included with the unit, allowing personnel to track results over time and easily identify problem areas that could be sources of infection.

Finally, Midbrook Medical is also the only custom sheet metal fabrication company in the United States with the EPA certifications necessary to work with and form products made from antimicrobial copper alloys. Including antimicrobial copper alloy in touch surfaces such as the tops of carts and tables, bedrails, door handles, and other items can drastically reduce the amount of HAI causing bacteria* that patients and employees are exposed to, reducing the risk of infection transfer.

Antimicrobial Copper surfaces are a supplement to and not a substitute for standard infection control practices and have been shown to reduce microbial contamination, but do not necessarily prevent cross contamination; users must continue to follow all current infection control practices.
