Single shared database, consistent user interface improves clinician efficiency, reduces costs by unifying information, medication and supply management

Metro, a world leader in providing technology, storage and transport solutions for healthcare, recently introduced the Metro Access platform, an integrated hardware and software system that delivers unified information, medication and supply access across its expanding technology product portfolio. Drawing on a single shared database and a consistent user interface, the Metro Access platform improves efficiency and reduces costs while giving clinicians more time to focus on patient care.

“With our Metro Access platform, we are delivering what the market has asked for – a way to technologically enable and link the multitude of systems we offer through a single, unified database,” said Rob Sobie, vice president of healthcare marketing at Metro. “The new Metro Access platform drives innovation by leveraging our offerings to enhance caregiver efficiency while significantly reducing IT and maintenance costs.”

Metro Access will be featured at the Metro exhibit (booth 6312) at HIMSS13, along with the first technology solution within the platform, the all-new Metro AccessPoint mobile computing system that highlights the synergy among enabled automated dispensing cabinets.

“By linking our industry leading AccessPoint system with automated dispensing cabinets from Metro and other leading vendors, the Metro Access platform eliminates information silos and optimizes medication processing from the pharmacy to the patient bedside,” said Sobie.

The scalable, flexible system supports a wide range of healthcare settings, from long-term care facilities to large acute-care hospitals and integrated delivery networks. By removing the need to enter data into multiple systems, Metro Access platform saves time and reduces errors to improve clinician efficiency. To ensure regulatory compliance, the system allows users to retain data for up to eight years.

For caregivers, the Metro Access platform offers a simple and intuitive interface to streamline access to medication management, electronic medical records (EMRs) and other healthcare information systems. To save time and ensure consistency, caregivers will use a username and password to access all essential information, along with a single interface to update patient information across multiple systems.

To streamline IT operations, Metro Access platform is designed for easy configuration and fast deployment in approximately eight weeks. The Metro AccessManager server is the central command console that provides the foundation for the system. Available in physical and virtual platforms, Metro AccessManager is built on enterprise-class technology from Intel, Dell and Microsoft and provides central monitoring and controls for system administration functions at single sites or across multiple hospital locations. The MetroLink HL7 integration engine interacts with hospital information systems, including admissions, EMRs, pharmacy, materials management and others, to secure information for use across the enterprise.
