Apart from specialising in patient care, Marienhospital is also a teaching facility for the University of Tubingen, and one of the largest hospitals in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany. It has around 800 beds and looks after more than 30,000 in-patients and 60,000 out-patients per year.

Marienhospital has received numerous awards for the quality of its work. This is despite the introduction of a flat-rate for treating patients and the demands for better patient services. Success has been achieved by improving service efficiency and quality through IT.
