MedCurrent OrderWise® Clinical Decision Support Selected By Emory Healthcare To Enable More Appropriate Care

MedCurrent OrderWise® Clinical Decision Support selected by Emory Healthcare to support high quality of care and meet regulatory requirements by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) - MedCurrent Corporation, a global leader in clinical decision support (CDS) solutions, announces that Emory Healthcare, the largest and leading academic health system in Georgia, USA, has selected MedCurrent’s OrderWise® CDS system to ensure appropriate ordering of advanced medical imaging.

As a leading academic healthcare provider, Emory Healthcare offers the choice of more than 2,800 doctors and operates over 250 locations, including 11 hospitals as well as primary care, urgent care, and MinuteClinics. Emory Healthcare will integrate OrderWise into their existing Cerner Millennium™ Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system to provide streamlined access to evidence-based guidelines at the point of care, designed to optimize workflow for ordering clinicians, enhance the quality of patient care and better manage resource utilization.

“We are committed to providing the highest quality care for every patient,” says Dr. Nabile Safdar, Associate CMIO at Emory Healthcare. “Our partnership with MedCurrent will help us ensure that every patient receiving an advanced imaging examination is getting the best possible test for their situation. We are looking forward to this important collaboration.”

Starting January 1, 2020, ordering professionals across the US will be required to consult clinical decision support (CDS) when ordering advanced diagnostic imaging (MR, CT, NM, PET) for Medicare outpatients as initially set forth in the Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA, 2014). Effective January 1, 2021, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) will begin to deny reimbursement for these advanced diagnostic imaging procedures if the claim does not specify that CDS has been consulted. To meet the requirements of this mandate, only qualified CDS mechanisms (CDSMs) and Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) developed by qualified provider-led entities (qPLEs) may be used.

MedCurrent’s OrderWise is a fully qualified CDSM that guides providers through clinical decision pathways to help them order the right diagnostic imaging tests for their patients. The solution is complemented by robust Analytics and Authoring Studio modules in order to support quality improvement initiatives and system customizations respectively. In the US, OrderWise integrates diagnostic imaging AUC from Intermountain Healthcare, Sage Evidence-based Medicine & Practice Institute (SEMPI), National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC).

“We are honored that Emory Healthcare chose MedCurrent OrderWise as their clinical decision support solution,” states John Adziovsky, CEO at MedCurrent. “We look forward to collaborating with the Emory Healthcare team to incorporate MedCurrent OrderWise into their decision-making workflow and support their mission of improving clinical and operational outcomes.”
