$13.4M REC Grant to Connect 2,500 Providers, Achieve Meaningful Use

The Massachusetts e-Health Institute, a division of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, has selected Greenway Medical Technologies, Inc.'s single-database electronic health record (EHR), practice management and interoperability solution PrimeSuite® as a preferred EHR solution for its statewide deployment initiative within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) REC healthcare grant program.

"Greenway® is continually gratified that PrimeSuite is being recognized by REC administering agencies across the country for the interoperability platform, data exchange capabilities and the pursuit of Meaningful Use through the guaranteed functionality we provide," said President and CEO Tee Green. "We are fully invested in working with the Massachusetts e-Health Institute to enable statewide care coordination through the commitments we have already established for physician practice customers in Massachusetts, and to facilitate the establishment of a national health information network."

With the institute's designated Implementation and Optimization Organizations (IOOs), Greenway will collaborate to provide practices with workflow analysis, timeline, data migration, implementation and training services to streamline the clinical, financial and administrative processes of EHR deployment.

"We are pleased to have Greenway Medical Technologies join our select list of certified health IT companies that will help thousands of healthcare providers across Massachusetts successfully transition to electronic health records," said Rick Shoup, Ph.D., director of the Massachusetts e-Health Institute. "Widespread deployment of electronic health records leads to better quality care for patients, reduces healthcare costs and spurs new jobs in the healthcare industry."

Regional Extension Centers also selecting PrimeSuite include:

  • The Alaska eHealth Network (AeHN) for its $3.6M grant program targeting 1,000 providers in 260 practices.
  • The New York City Regional Electronic Adoption Center for Health (NYC REACH) for its $21.7M grant program.
  • The New York eHealth Collaborative's (NYeC) $26.5M REC grant program to implement EHRs within state borders outside of New York City's five boroughs.
  • The Iowa Health Information Regional Extension Center (HITREC) for its $5.5M program targeting 1,200 area providers.

Overall, the national HHS REC program has granted $598M to establish 60 centers linking group practices, critical access hospitals, community health centers and related healthcare organizations through sustainable two-year grants to deploy EHRs in those settings to connect healthcare organizations and establish Meaningful Use functionality.
