The Stage 7 Ambulatory Award was given to 350 ambulatory clinics within the organization.

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) has recognized 350 Kaiser Permanente ambulatory clinics with its HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Ambulatory Award.

HIMSS Analytics provides analytics and data to support decision-making by healthcare professionals, healthcare IT companies, and consulting firms. The HIMSS Ambulatory Adoption Model, which was developed in 2011, evaluates the progress and impact that electronic medical records (EMRs) in ambulatory facilities have made. These ambulatory facilities are owned by hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics database. Stage 7 represents the highest level of EMR adoption and denotes “a health system’s advanced electronic patient record environment,” according to a news release on the award.

Kaiser Permanente has “a complete electronic patient medical record with appropriate ubiquitous access to support patient care in all Kaiser Permanente facilities across the country,” said John P. Hoyt, FACHE, FHIMSS, executive vice president, HIMSS Analytics. “With world class analytics, Kaiser Permanente has shown the value of a very comprehensive EHR and the business and clinical analytics to improve care, quality, safety, and efficiency on a world class basis.”

Kaiser Permanente provides healthcare for more than 9.5 million individuals in eight states and the District of Columbia. The organization provides healthcare, conducts research, delivers health education, and supports community health, according to the news release. The organization also received 37 HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Hospital Awards.

In the third quarter of 2014, less than five percent (4.37 percent) of the more than 27,000 U.S. ambulatory clinics in the HIMSS Analytics Database received the Stage 7 Ambulatory Award, the news release notes.

Kaiser Permanente will be recognized for its Stage 7 Ambulatory Award at the 2015 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition from April 12-16 in Chicago.
