Jefferson Regional Medical Center Successfully Activates Eclipsys' Sunrise Enterprise 5.5

  • First Client Activation of New Software Release Occurs On Time and On Budget
  • Unprecedented 30-Day Enterprise-wide Activation
  • Within Hours of Install Users Describe Inpatient EHR Solution 'Blazing Fast and Fun to Use'

Eclipsys Corporation, The Outcomes Company, recently announced that Jefferson Regional Medical Center (JRMC), a 471-bed acute care hospital in Pine Bluff, AR, is the first Eclipsys client to activate Sunrise Enterprise 5.5, a significant uplift to Eclipsys' leading integrated suite of software solutions. Upon completion of the upgrade, 100 percent of the hospital's more than 2,600 end users had access to and began using Sunrise Enterprise 5.5. The on time, on budget, 30-day activation is in direct support of JRMC's goal to meet by early August this year the expected "Meaningful Use" requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.

"Our clinicians love Sunrise Enterprise 5.5's exceptional performance and user interface enhancements," said Patrick Neece, chief information officer at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. "We are excited by the improvements in workflow, reporting and interoperability that are packaged in this upgrade. We expect to see advances in the level of quality care we provide to our community, in addition to enabling us to maximize the stimulus payment opportunities from ARRA."

JRMC also expects Sunrise Enterprise 5.5 to support its goal to move from Level 6 to Level 7 in the HIMSS Analytics EMR adoption model.

Enterprise-Wide Activation to Achieve Meaningful Use
The enterprise-wide activation spanned 15 units, critical care units, maternal child center, the emergency department and 10 physician offices. Upgrading to Sunrise Enterprise 5.5 has brought JRMC new features, new customization options and unparalleled quality and responsiveness to help the hospital operate more effectively and yield even greater, positive patient outcomes.

"The reaction to the system has been extremely positive from our end users and adoption has been a seamless process due to the system's intuitive user interface," said Andy Jenkins, administrative director of Information Systems. "Combined with the dedication of the JRMC and Eclipsys implementation teams and the unwavering support from our executive team, this huge initiative was a success from beginning to end."

The hospital simultaneously upgradedEclipsys' computerized physician order entry, emergency care, ambulatory, critical care, clinical documentation, pharmacy and bar-coded medication administration solutions. Working together, these systems provide JRMC's clinicians with fully integrated clinical workflows to help improve clinical outcomes and turnaround time and provide a single, secure electronic health record (EHR) across the enterprise. In addition, an upgrade of Sunrise Enterprise Scheduling was deployed to manage resources and create and schedule appointments across all of its care settings.

"Jefferson Regional Medical Center represents one of the nation's finest healthcare institutions," said Phil Pead, Eclipsys' president and chief executive officer. "Their pioneering clinical efforts are now further enhanced by one of the most intuitive, functionally rich clinical solutions in the industry. Sunrise Enterprise 5.5 enables clinicians to access critical information efficiently across the many venues of care allowing caregivers the opportunity to spend more time with their patients. Sunrise Enterprise 5.5 ships with Helios by Eclipsys open architecture platform enabling JRMC to integrate third-party applications seamlessly without interfaces, thereby lowering the total cost of ownership, improving data integrity and greatly simplifying their third-party vendor environment."
