Infor And Hackensack University Medical Center Partner To Build Real World FHIR Implementation

Infor Cloverleaf Capabilities to Support the Healthcare Industry's HL7 Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) Draft Interoperability Standard
Infor, the industry cloud company, recently announced a new partnership with Hackensack University Medical Center (HackensackUMC), a nonprofit teaching and research hospital located in Bergen County, N.J., and Infor customer for more than 20 years, to build a real world implementation that will support Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) initiatives utilizing the Infor Cloverleaf Integration Suite. As the healthcare industry continues to push for better interoperability, FHIR, a proposed new standards framework from HL7, calls for a platform for simultaneously accessing data from different healthcare systems, regardless of how data is stored, to ultimately streamline health information exchange, expand the capabilities of electronic health records, and boost innovation in mobile applications.
HackensackUMC has agreed to be a lead adopter to implement FHIR DSTU 2 Patient Resources to communicate with mobile devices using Infor Cloverleaf technology. The project will implement the FHIR patient, encounter and resources using generally available Infor Cloverleaf technology components. Modules of the Infor Cloverleaf Suite, the Infor Cloverleaf Web Services and Direct Adapter, are being configured at HackensackUMC to support FHIR pilots and proof of concepts, and not only support web services but also the IHE profiles and early implementations of the FHIR standard.
"The era and the time of the patient is now. Patient engagement and patient participation is only possible if flow and exchange of information is open and easy; FHIR allows that to happen. It is our moral and ethical duty to allow the patient to be in control of their electronic health record and information," said Shafiq Rab, M.D., MPH, vice president and chief information officer, Hackensack University Medical Center. "Partnering with Infor, we're able to change the way our data is structured and standardized, and pave the way for FHIR standards of exchanging healthcare information electronically at our organization."
"Infor was the perfect partner for HackensackUMC as an early adopter of API capabilities and the FHIR standard for real-life production use cases. With superior Infor support, Cloverleaf Web Services easily fit right into our architecture and we were operationally live within days." added Jeremy Marut, CHCIO, director of enterprise architecture at HackensackUMC.
The Infor Cloverleaf Suite is a leading clinical integration and information exchange solution that creates a sustainable foundation for healthcare organizations to proactively manage, coordinate, and share data across the care continuum, and was just named the Top Complex Data, Multi-Organizational Heath Information Exchange Vendor solution by Black Book Market Research LLC.
Infor attended the FHIR DSTU 2 Connectathon at the May HL7 International Workgroup meeting in Paris. In conjunction with participating European partner Health-Comm GmbH, they completed all the requirements for Track 2 (Version 2 Message Conversion) using a FHIR interface built on Infor Cloverleaf technology. Giving proof to Cloverleaf's strength in interoperability, Infor and Health-Comm verified these requirements with not only one, but three different public server implementations.
"Infor is committed to providing leadership on the emerging FHIR standard, and this real-world implementation of FHIR using Cloverleaf is one of the first of its kind in the industry, going beyond previous announcements of support for the FHIR standard," said Barry P. Chaiken, M.D., chief medical information officer, Healthcare, Infor. "Being able to share information across varying platforms is critical to achieving an interoperable Health IT infrastructure, and we're continually innovating and investing in our healthcare-specific solutions to ensure health information is sufficiently standardized so our customers can provide safer, more efficient care."
