Imprivata And Teradici Announce Strategic Co-development Partnership To Provide Strong Authentication On PC-Over-IP Zero Clients For VMware View

Partnership in response to healthcare demand for one-touch desktop roaming and strong authentication on zero client virtual desktops

Imprivata and Teradici announced recently that they are working as part of a strategic co-development partnership to provide integration and interoperability of PC-over-IP (PCoIP) zero client devices with Imprivata's industry leading authentication and single sign-on software. This interoperability will be incorporated into a future release of Teradici PCoIP firmware and Imprivata OneSign software. The joint solution will enable healthcare providers to deploy VMware View virtual desktops with secure and rich-media hardware zero clients that provide clinicians with one-touch desktop roaming and strong authentication.

An increasing number of IT organizations in healthcare, government and other markets are looking to deploy VMware View and zero clients to avoid having to manage an operating system at the end point device, secure data and rapidly provision end users with desktops and applications. By providing a highly integrated solution, Imprivata, Teradici and VMware are enabling these organizations to fully realize the cost and workflow efficiency benefits of desktop virtualization and now extend single sign-on and strong authentication to healthcare applications using zero clients.

By adding firmware support for Imprivata OneSign, Teradici will enable its zero client partners to support a wide range of leading user authentication technologies such as a fingerprint biometrics or ID badge. PCoIP zero client vendors include industry leaders Cisco, Dell, LG, Samsung and Wyse.

Rich media hardware zero clients with VMware View will support:

  • One-touch login for EMR, PACS and CPOE and other applications with smartcards, finger biometrics, proximity cards and more
  • Follow-me virtual desktop roaming, to maintain the desktop's previous state as a user roams from workstation to workstation
  • Workflows that require transaction-based authentication such as prior drug disbursement or signing a prescription order for a controlled substance using Imprivata ProveID
