ICW Part Of German Consortium That Wins Award For Telemedicine Achievement

ICW Technology Helps "Partnership for the Heart" Group Earn Karl Storz Prize for Telemedicine and Demonstrates Care Management Experience for U.S. Market

InterComponentWare, Inc., a leading international provider of healthcare information technology, has been honored with the 2011 Karl Storz prize for Telemedicine by The German Society for Telemedicine through its participation in the prestigious German "Partnership for the Heart" consortium. The group won the award for developing a remote monitoring system - including software for the telemedicine workplace and an electronic medical record - for the telemedical care of patients suffering from congestive heart failure.

Sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, "Partnership for the Heart" conducted a two-year study in which patients with congestive heart failure automatically transmitted vital parameters like weight, blood pressure and ECG measurements wirelessly to the telemedical center at Charité University Medical Center in Berlin and the Robert Bosch Hospital in Stuttgart. After analysis, data revealing suspicious deviations from predefined normal ranges created automated alarms in the system so that professionals were able to promptly contact the individual or their doctor.

"We're very proud to be part of an initiative that has delivered objective confirmation of both the medical and economic benefits of telemedicine," said Jeremy Coote, CEO of ICW, Inc. "It demonstrates ICW's considerable experience in successful care management applications and underscores our ability to bring that knowledge and expertise to the North American market. We're pleased that our technologies helped make the venture a success and honored that the collective effort has been recognized."

Other participants in the "Partnership for the Heart" consortium include Charité, Bosch Healthcare GmbH, telemedical supplier Aipermon GmbH Co. KG and associated partners Deutsche Telekom and health insurers Barmer-GEK and Bosch-BKK.

Friedrich Köhler, Head of the Center for Vascular Telemedicine at the Charité, accepted the award on behalf of the consortium.
