Estes Park Medical Center (EPMC), a 25-bed critical-access acute care facility that serves the mountain community of Estes Park, Colorado, has selected HealthCare Anytime’s (HCA) Patient Portal in the Cloud for its hospital and outpatient clinic. This SaaS model is expected to facilitate interactive engagement for the approximately 25,000 patients treated each year within the healthcare system.

EPMC provides medical and surgical services, obstetrics, home health care, and hospice, and as a level IV trauma center, runs a 24-hour emergency department with ambulance and emergency air transport. Estes Park Medical Group offers family medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, general surgery, pediatrics, and orthopedics. Adjacent to the hospital, Prospect Park Living Center is a 60-bed skilled nursing facility with 24-hour care and various therapies. In 2012, Avatar International Awards were presented to the emergency department for 5 Star Service for Overall Care and to the medical clinic for 5 Star Service for Loyalty and Endorsement.

In pursuit of the hospital’s mission “to make a positive difference in the health and wellbeing of all we serve,” officials sought to help its patients achieve meaningful engagement in their healthcare. Gary Hall, VP of Information Services/CIO at EPMC, said, “HCA offered the unique solution we were seeking in a patient portal.”

HCA’s enterprise portal is cloud-based, offering easy and secure access for interactive communications. As opposed to onsite server hosting which requires the purchase of new hardware and licenses as well as overseeing by a hospital’s IT department, HCA provides maintenance, support, and upgrades and will aid EPMC with security concerns relating to HIPAA and PCI compliance.  Scalable to meet the organization’s growing needs, the solution will integrate with the hospital’s inpatient EMR, MEDITECH, and the clinic’s outpatient ambulatory EMR, Allscripts. “This is especially convenient for our patients who can go to one website to securely access their health information from our hospital and clinic systems,” said Hall.

“Estes Park leadership clearly sees the value of providing their patients with secure online access to the patient’s own health information. This will lead to a more informed patient population,” said Brady Klick, CEO at HCA.
