Hospital Environments Increase Staff Efficiency And Patient Safety With Omnicell OptiFlex SS 9.0

HIMSS '08 - Omnicell, Inc. a leading provider of system solutions to acute healthcare facilities, recently introduced its OptiFlex SS 9.0 supply chain management system. A complete preference card-driven system that tracks supplies, special items and other aspects of surgical service cases, the OptiFlex SS 9.0 system delivers important new features in an integrated solution that includes management of both secure cabinets and open shelves. Surgical services managers and nurses seeking to increase patient safety through enhanced productivity now have the ability to efficiently handle supplies in multiple operating departments across hospital environments and provide an increased level of secure storage for IV solutions.

Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital, a 115-bed facility in Kerrville, Texas, is one of the first hospitals to go live with the new OptiFlex SS 9.0 system. Implementing the solution in both the hospital's main operating rooms and ambulatory care center proved to be an ideal environment for Omnicell to demonstrate the software's advanced capabilities.

"Fast to deploy and easy to use solutions are critical to an efficient IT operation," said Richard Cruthirds, CIO at Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital. "The OptiFlex SS 9.0 system easily meets these requirements in addition to addressing many of the difficult problems and inefficiencies of supply chain management across our diverse groups of surgical service units."

David Pena, Director of Surgical Services at Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital, added, "With the OptiFlex SS 9.0, system, we are able to reduce inventory, assure accurate supply availability, and improve productivity in surgical staffing. The ability to globally manage items across preference cards for our staff enhances accuracy and greatly reduces manual work."

"The enhancements included in the OptiFlex SS 9.0 system were inspired by our customers who want an easy-to-use, yet comprehensive solution to drive the entire operating room supply chain," said Robert Mullenger, senior product manager, Omnicell. "The supply area of surgical services currently represents the fastest growth rate of advanced solutions for supply chain management, illustrating the need for continued investment in this critical solution."

Omnicell is demonstrating the OptiFlex SS 9.0 system in booth #563 at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) February 24-28, 2008 in Orlando, Florida at the Orange County Convention Center.
