How do you stay on top of your patients when you’re not always there? This is a central challenge to any physician in long term adult care—and one that Bountiful Utah’s South Davis Community Hospital (SDCH) has been meeting since 1977. Along with a large nursing staff, its eight doctors look after roughly 100 patients, providing everything from orthopedic rehabilitation to long term acute care. The facility has won numerous awards for its work, including an American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) Silver Award for outstanding performance in healthcare.
While SDCH has always excelled in providing its services, its mission comes with a variety of built-in challenges. Like many in the industry, SDCH’s doctors are essentially part-time and work in as many as five diferent facilities. They rely on daily contact with nurses for updates on their patients, so rapid, secure communication is essential.
