Himss Announces New Nominating Committee Members

Members elect three individuals to join the HIMSS Nominating Committee

Upon election by their peers, three HIMSS individual members will be joining the HIMSS Nominating Committee, serving a two-year term from Jan. 1, 2015 to Dec. 31, 2016: Michele “Mickey” McGlynn, FHIMSS; Jeanette Polaschek, MS, RN, FHIMSS; and Sal Volpe, MD, FAAP, FACP, CHCQM, FHIMSS.

“Members of the HIMSS Nominating Committee offer their time and expertise to identify exceptional candidates to lead the organization, thus enabling HIMSS to realize its vision of better health through the best use of IT,” said Pete Shelkin, CISSP, PMP, FHIMSS, 2014 Nominating Committee Chair.

The HIMSS Nominating Committee creates the slate of candidates for both the Nominating Committee and Board of Directors. This includes soliciting, interviewing and evaluating eligible candidates – a crucial component to driving the mission of HIMSS. The current HIMSS Nominating Committee creates a slate of six qualified candidates for three elected nominating committee positions, to be voted on by all eligible voting members of HIMSS for the upcoming term.

“HIMSS is positioned as the leader that drives innovative solutions for implementing technology to promote high quality, cost-effective patient care across the country. I am excited to play a role in shaping the composition of the HIMSS leadership through the work of the nominating committee,” said Jeanette Polaschek MS, RN, director, consulting services group, Orion Health.

“As a former HIMSS New York State president and Physician Committee co-chair, I look forward to gaining a greater understanding of the HIMSS mission and vision. My goal is to assist during the interviews and share what I have learned and to participate in the selection of the future leaders of this great organization,” said Salvatore Volpe MD FAAP, FACP, FHIMSS, CHCQM, physician.

“I recently completed my term as chair of the Electronic Health Record Association and saw the opportunity to participate as a member of the HIMSS Nominating Committee as a way to continue to contribute to the important work of our industry,” said Mickey McGlynn, FHIMSS, senior director, strategy and operation of health services, Siemens Healthcare. “I look forward to working with the other committee members to identify candidates who can best support the mission of the HIMSS North America board of directors.”

Members of the nominating committee must be a Regular or Life HIMSS member or the senior executive representative of an Organizational Affiliate member who has achieved Senior or Fellow status.
