Henry Schein Medical Systems Expands EMR Functionality For Medical Specialties

Specialized clinical content and customizable features allow for rapid deployment and efficient new patient set-up

Henry Schein Medical Systems, a provider of proven and cost-effective practice management (PM) and electronic medical records (EMR) systems, recently announced a major expansion of its customized MicroMD EMR solutions, designed for use in a wide array of specialized clinical settings, such as dermatology, OB/GYN, neurology and nephrology.

As the need to demonstrate meaningful use of health information technology inches closer, it is becoming increasingly important for practices to find ways to efficiently transition to an EMR. Built on the foundation of its CCHIT-certified MicroMD EMR, Henry Schein developed specialized content and customizable features to make it easy for these specialists to deploy and use the EMR – and with significantly less disruption to their office workflow or preferred documentation habits.

The customized MicroMD functionality includes common encounter templates, medications and conditions, terminology, and diagnoses. A rapid history builder uses this content to set up a new patient account and history with only a few key strokes. The system is also customizable for visits that do not fall within existing parameters.

"Specialists typically see a larger percentage of new patients. The highly customized areas of focus available through the MicroMD EMR solution create daily value and ensure these providers have the tools they need to meet meaningful use requirements," said Keith Slater, general manager and vice president of Henry Schein Medical Systems. "Each specialty solution is designed to anticipate the provider's needs and make it simple for them to integrate the EMR into daily use as quickly as possible."

In addition to automatically loaded content, MicroMD allows users to incorporate practice-specific templates for letters, establish clinical dashboard settings and store clinical decision support rules. If providers prefer to customize the system, they can do so without the need to consult an IT expert. The EMR also comes with exclusive access to Henry Schein's CliniBank, a template "trading post" that allows users to share and modify alternative templates that work best for them.
