Healthix, Inc. And The Brooklyn Health Information Exchange (BHIX) Announce Their Merger, Effective December 1

The larger, merged RHIO will promote innovative care through health information exchange and support coordination of care to improve clinical outcomes and efficiency among its participants in New York City and Long Island.

New York, NY (MARKETWIRED) - Healthix and BHIX are pleased to announce that their merger became effective December 1.  Among the key objectives for the newly merged Healthix will be expanding health information exchange (HIE)among its participants while shaping a robust relationship with the New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) for development of the State Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY).

The merged RHIO will retain the Healthix name and will be governed by a new Board of Directors, chaired by Richard J. Donoghue, Senior Vice President for Strategy, Planning and Business Development at NYU Langone Medical Center.

The newly merged Healthix brings to bear a great deal of expertise in delivering health information exchange services, access to clinical data and the tools to support care coordination for over 9million patients and over 100 participant organizations serving over 400 locations in New York City and Nassau and Suffolk Counties.  “As one of the largest RHIOs in the country, with participation from a growing number of providers, Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs), New York State Medicaid Health Homes and health plans, Healthix is continuously learning from our participants how HIE can help them improve care and efficiency,” said Tom Check, Healthix President and CEO.“BHIX and Healthix have each developed many innovative services that will become available to more participants through the merger.”

In the short-term, Healthix will maintain the existing Healthix and BHIX technical platforms to support its participants, but a plan for merging the platforms to form a “best in breed” model is now underway.  “Having a merged platform in the next year and unified policies for HIE will expandthe rangeof data available to participants, with the patient’s consent, and facilitate better patient care,” added Mr. Check.

Last year, both BHIX and Healthix contracted with the New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) to operate their respective technology platforms as NYeC expands the SHIN-NY into a more unified and harmonized health information exchange. Healthix will now engage NYeC in the migration to a common technical platform and closer connectivity with other HIEs in the region.
