Lower Cost Better Care With HIE

HIE platform chosen to Summary improve quality, reduce the cost of care, and integrate disparate clinical systems across the enterprise and throughout the community.

In July of this year, Baylor Scott & White Health, the largest non-profit health system in Texas, joined forces with eight other Texas health systems to share clinical and administrative data to improve quality and efficiency, lower health care costs, and accelerate medical innovation in patient care.

Called the Texas Care Alliance (TCA), the partnership harnesses the data of tens of millions of patient encounters from its other health system members: Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics, Tyler; Community Hospital Corporation, Plano; Good Shepherd Health System, Longview; Hendrick Health System, Abilene; Medical Center Health System, Odessa; Midland Memorial Hospital, Midland; Shannon Health System, San Angelo; and United Regional Health Care System, Wichita Falls.

More recently, Texas-based Baylor Scott & White Health announced that it has chosen Allscripts dbMotion health information exchange platform to improve quality, reduce the cost of care, and integrate disparate clinical systems across the enterprise and throughout its community.

Allscripts dbMotion will allow a patient's clinical information to be seen in every care setting, allowing data to flow back and forth among providers, and utilized to improve quality and reduce waste.

According to Carl E. Couch, M.D., President of Baylor Scott & White Quality Alliance, "Allscripts dbMotion will allow a patient's clinical information to be seen in every care setting. Additionally, data can flow back and forth among providers, and can then be used to improve quality and reduce waste."

One piece of functionality that sets the platform apart is the dbMotion EHR Agent, which resides as a miniature application on any clinical EHR workspace. When information not found in the clinician's EHR shows up in the wider community record, EHR Agent alerts users and allows them to pull select information back into their native EHR.

Another of Baylor Scott & White's top priorities is leveraging clinical information for population health analytics. To accelerate progress towards this objective, the organization will likewise adopt the Allscripts dbMotion Clinical Analytics Gateway (CAG), which enables users to maximize analytics packages.

Based in Dallas, Baylor Scott & White Health is the largest not-for-profit health care system in Texas and one of the largest health care systems in the U.S. It comprises 50 hospitals and more than 500 patient care sites, as well as approximately 6,000 affiliated physicians and 36,000 employees.
