Health Care DataWorks Unveils New Version Of KnowledgeEdge With Advanced Portal And Value-Based Purchasing Application

Leading healthcare analytics and business intelligence solutions provider offers a new version of KnowledgeEdge that delivers enhanced capabilities, while the Value-based Purchasing application will enable hospitals and health systems to identify opportunities to secure more Medicare reimbursements.

Health Care DataWorks, Inc. (HCD), a leading provider of business intelligence solutions and healthcare analytics, has launched new elements of its KnowledgeEdge product suite that include an advanced portal, a Medicare patient risk assessment dashboard, a fully hosted Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and a Value-based Purchasing (VBP) application.

Key highlights of the new KnowledgeEdge product include:

• KnowledgeEdge portal, a single interface where dashboards, applications and reports are displayed, and users can perform all their high-volume activities.
• KnowledgeEdge Value-based Purchasing application, proactively manages the VBP requirements taking effect in October 2012 and potentially securing more Medicare reimbursements.
• KnowledgeEdge Medicare Patient Risk Assessment dashboard, containing the information and tools to measure the health risk and illness burden of patient populations, assess the degree of cost variation by illness burden, and predict the risk and prospective cost of individual patients.
• KnowledgeEdge hosted, enabling hospitals and health systems to implement an EDW that maximizes internal resources, achieves faster results and reduces the overall capital investment.

The enhancements improve the experience of all users within the hospital or health system and provide more detailed analytics capabilities for informed and nearly real-time decision making. For example, the portal features easier navigation, system-wide text messaging to all KnowledgeEdge users, a common interface regardless of presentation layer tools, the ability to set up “favorites” for quick access to reports and dashboards, and links to reference items, such as PDFs and videos.

The VBP application provides a seamless view of 20 VBP performance indicators that affect Medicare reimbursements. Under the VBP program, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will withhold a portion of reimbursements to all hospitals and health systems, then give them an opportunity to earn back funds based on their VBP scores. Among the VBP application capabilities: Summary tab to assess all VBP measures in one view and see the overall VBP score, calculator to estimate how much will be withheld, “what if” scenarios to determine how much hospitals will lose or gain if they perform better or worse in certain categories, and root cause analysis to identify problems or isolate on departments, procedures or personnel that are affecting scores so the organization can improve a specific metric.

The KnowledgeEdge Patient Risk Assessment dashboard utilizes administrative health data and advanced statistical techniques embedded in Verisk Health’s proven risk models to ensure aggregated and empirically valid risk scores are produced and assigned to the patient population at the individual patient level or at the group level.
