Hawthorn Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Hawthorn) is a commercial stage specialty pharmaceutical company that develops and markets prescription pharmaceuticals to multiple physician specialties. With an aggressive product development pipeline, Hawthorn’s sales force was growing rapidly and their current standard issue mobile device – an HP iPaq PDA running Windows Mobile – had been discontinued. This caused the price of these devices to almost double, making it no longer worth it to equip members of the sales team with the device.

When iPoint, Hawthorn’s mission-critical CRM application, began developing an application for Apple iOS, Director of IT Clay Hilton decided that iPads were the best device to replace their aging PDAs. The deployment of the iPads made IT quickly realize that they wanted an increased level of tracking, security, and overall management of the devices beyond what Apple provided. Their goal was to find a Mobile Device Management (MDM) system that could push and track over-the-air iPoint updates and fixes as well as their other general requirements.

Clay’s search for MDM vendors ended at MaaS 360 saying, “An engineer at Apple recommended I take a look at MaaS360. After comparing features, it was clear that MaaS360 offered all the capabilities we needed for Mobile Device Management, especially for application deployment. And the fact that I could deploy MaaS360 so quickly and easily through the cloud was a huge advantage, given our time pressures.”
