Invites Doctors & Healthcare Leaders to Join Conversation to Restore the Joy of Medicine
Geneia, a company of experienced change agents creating analytic and technology solutions to improve healthcare, recently released findings from its nationwide survey of 400 physicians and invited physicians, clinicians, and healthcare leaders to join the conversation about how to restore the Joy of Medicine.
The survey found that the Joy of Medicine is rooted in physicians’ pride in their abilities and the opportunity to establish quality interactions with the patients they treat. Despite the patient relationship being identified as a strong contributor to experiencing joy in the practice of medicine, an overwhelming majority say that those relationships are highly difficult to attain:
- 88% say spending time developing an authentic engagement with each patient is increasingly harder to realize.
- 81% say focusing fully on patient needs, treatments, and methods is increasingly harder to actualize.
- 79% say it’s become harder to develop intimate professional relationships with patients in their care.

The monthly #JoyofMedicine Twitter Chat series begins on Tuesday, September 29, 7:00 – 7:30 pm Eastern, and continues the last Tuesday of every month. On September 29, Geneia is hosting Christine A. Earlier this year, Geneia revealed that the nationwide Physician Misery Index is 3.7 out of 5, indicating that scales are tippling from satisfaction to misery, and that 67% of physicians know a peer who is likely to stop practicing medicine in the next five years as the result of burnout.
