Breakthrough Upgrade Makes Mobile Carts More Efficient at the Point of Care

Futura Mobility, a leading mobility solutions provider supporting 1 of every 3 hospitals across North America, has announced the official launch of their Continuum Power System. Utilizing Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery technology, the Continuum solution is the most significant power system upgrade that has been made available for mobile carts used in hospitals and long term care facilities.

“The increased reliance of mobile carts as the primary vehicle for capturing patient information at the Point of Care has put pressure on the power systems to be more robust with greater flexibility. Legacy technologies like Sealed Lead Acid have not met this demand, which has necessitated the need for a solution like the Continuum Power System,” said David Gulian, CEO.

The Continuum Power System features an advanced electronics system that safely recharges the batteries to full capacity in just 2 hours, while offering partial charge capabilities not present in older battery technologies. The Lithium Iron cells offer a life span of up to 5 years and will reduce the weight of the mobile cart by nearly 30 pounds; improving maneuverability for nurses and clinicians, an often cited point of pain.

In addition, Continuum provides hospitals that have several models of mobile carts with a universal solution that will streamline required materials for storage as well as support practices. The retro-fit kits easily equip to current mobile carts and are available on most leading cart manufacturers including Ergotron, Howard, InfoLogix, Jaco, Metro/Flo, Rubbermaid, Stinger and more.

Futura Mobility formally introduced the product at last week’s HIMSS12 Healthcare IT conference in Las Vegas, along with a sneak peak of Futura’s upcoming MobileForceTM Device/Fleet Manager Software. The MobileForce application is designed to allow healthcare providers to better manage their fleet of mobile carts at an enterprise level, providing unmatched visibility in areas including battery life, maintenance requirements, and real-time location.

“The introduction of the Continuum Power System and our MobileForce management platform supports our mission to serve as a complete mobility partner to our healthcare clients. Efficiency, cost savings and improved care are paramount in each of our endeavors, and these solutions embody all three,” said Gulian.
