Explorys To Showcase The Impact Of BIG DATA In Healthcare At AMIA 2012 Annual Symposium

Innovator of Analytics Platform for Healthcare to Participate in Three Evidence-Based Learning Sessions at Annual Informatics Conference

WHAT/WHEN:
Explorys, an innovator of secure, cloud-computing platform solutions for leveraging BIG DATA in healthcare, recently announced that it will be participating in two educational sessions and one poster session at the upcoming American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) 2012 Annual Symposium, presenting on an array of topics including BIG DATA in healthcare, Electronic Health Record (EHR) reporting, and pharmacologic ontology in clinical information systems. Detailed information regarding each presentation is listed below:

Pre-Symposium Tutorial (Dr. Anil Jain)
"Leveraging Electronic Health Records for Clinical Quality Measurement and Performance Reporting"  November 4, 2012, 8:30 a.m. CST:

  • During a pre-symposium tutorial, Dr. Anil Jain, consulting staff at Cleveland Clinic and CMIO of Explorys, will give a presentation that describes how Cleveland Clinic advanced its clinical quality measurement and reporting program to support performance initiatives and adhere to related legislation. Dr. Jain will also describe how the healthcare organization overcame governance and clinical workflow challenges to extend the investments it made in healthcare technology, illustrating how Cleveland Clinic developed a team designed to manage the use of EHR data to measure quality and outcomes.

Presentation (Antoinette Thomas, RN, MSN, CPNP) "Explorys and MedStar Health Leveraging BIG DATA in Healthcare to Accelerate Research and Innovation" 
November 6, 2012, 1:45 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. CST

  • Explorys' Strategic Account Manager, Antoinette Thomas, will co-present with Dr. Neil J. Weissman, President for MedStar Health Research Institute, about a case study of Explorys and Medstar Health's partnership. The presentation will highlight how MedStar Health leveraged Explorys' BIG DATA platform to aggregate and standardize clinical, operational, and financial data across multiple providers, care venues, and data source systems in a HIPAA/HITECH compliant manner.

Poster Session (Adrienne Walcer)
"Comparison of Ontologies to Derive Pharmacologic Classes from Medications in Clinical Information Systems"
November 6, 2012, 5:00 p.m. CST

  • During this poster session, Adrienne Walcer, a data scientist at Explorys, will present an analysis of four systems used to classify pharmaceutical products in clinical information systems. The presentation will describe how ontologies for pharmacological classes add mechanisms for clinical data classification, offering analytic functionalities.

WHO:
Dr. Jain is the Senior VP and Chief Medical Information Officer of Explorys and consulting staff at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Jain spent 16 years at the Cleveland Clinic, where he led several health IT innovations while also practicing medicine. Currently, Dr. Jain serves on the Ohio Health Advisory Board and is an active member of AMIA.

Antoinette Thomas brings 15 years of clinical practice experience and seven years healthcare IT experience to her role as Strategic Account Manager at Explorys. She is a licensed Registered Nurse and Certified Nurse Practitioner in Ohio. Thomas is also a member of American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

Adrienne Walcer is a data scientist in the Informatics Division of Explorys where her principal focus is on EHR-platform standardization and data mining. Additionally, Walcer is currently a lecturer at Kent State University's Executive MBA program, where she teaches healthcare statistics.
