Ellumen Tapped For Healthcare Cyber Security Panel

Ellumen’s Federal Health IT Privacy & Security Expert Invited to HIMSS Information Security Event
Arlington, VA (PRWEB) - The cyber security division of Ellumen, a provider of professional services and IT solutions for government and commercial customers, is being tapped once again for its subject matter expertise on health IT privacy and security. Dennis M. Seymour, senior security architect at Ellumen, was hand-selected by HIMSS for his in-depth knowledge and breadth of experience in federal healthcare information security practices to moderate a panel at the “Information Security: Organizational Perspectives on Best Practices” event. The virtual event, produced by HIMSS Media, will take place online at 11:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m. CST on Thursday, May 30, and will address three key areas in healthcare IT: Cyber security, BYOD, and cloud computing.
Innovation in healthcare technology is exploding. The amount of patient data being captured, shared and analyzed is growing exponentially, along with an increase in health IT interoperability. As patients and providers begin to capture and share a mushrooming volume of information, ensuring health data integrity, protection and security is a must. This HIMSS Privacy & Security event aims to address what sound information security practices healthcare organizations must have in place to meet today’s demands.
Seymour, who holds CISSP and ITILv3, will be moderating the panel, “Healthcare Cyber Security: What You Need to Know Now” along with speaker Dana DeMasters, MN, RN, CHPS, who is the Privacy Officer/Security Specialist at Liberty Hospital (Kansas City, MO). The panel will address the current state of the health IT environment, which is fast-paced and rapidly evolving, and provide best practices and components for implementing a sound information security plan. The discussion will focus on identifying potential risks and various sources of threats, and preparing healthcare organizations to best protect and avoid areas of compromise and security breaches.
"With the groundswell of activity around the secure exchange of health information over the Internet and mobile devices, the healthcare industry is at a critical juncture in ensuring security controls are implemented and working effectively to protect patient privacy. When an influential body such as HIMSS makes it a top priority, you know it's a challenge that all healthcare enterprises need to pay attention to," noted Gail Belles, Client Solutions Cyber Security Practice Lead at Ellumen. "Dennis will be a great moderator on this topic: he spends most of his time helping our commercial and federal healthcare customers keep pace with the ever-changing security and privacy regulations, and helped grow Ellumen's own Cyber Security division two-fold."
A leading expert and technician, Seymour has extensive experience developing system controls assessment and certification and mobile/medical device security policies and compliance with HIPAA, NIST, FISMA, and other requirements. He is recognized as an authority in the privacy and security arena, serving as chair for the HIMSS Privacy and Security Steering Committee, HIMSS Mobile Device Security Work Group, the Medical Device Security Task Force, and the Risk Assessment Work Group.
Additional panels include:
- “Bring Your Own Device (BYOD): Pitfalls and Risks to Avoid” - with Mark Dill, Director, Information Security at Cleveland Clinic.
- “Managing Cloud Computing Services in the Health IT Setting: The Opportunities and the Challenges” - with Brian Evans, CISSP, CISM, CISA, CGEIT is the interim Information Security officer at UAB Health Systems.
