EHR System Tracks Little Details That Make A Big Difference
“I chose to go into practice in pediatrics because they really are the best patients. Everyone around kids is just happier – it’s a different environment in medicine and I fell in love with it,” Dr. Rodrigo Argenal of McAllen, Texas shares. “A kid is a kid. The whole motivation to make them better is what really makes a difference. You can be a kid with them, it’s nice.”
Dr. Argenal started his career as a pediatric hospitalist working in several hospitals with many clinic affiliates. “In my experience, it was very hard to get the full picture on the patients that were being sent to the hospital because there was a lack of information from what had happened in the clinic several visits before. We would have to have papers faxed or laboratory results sent – but sometimes that was delayed or just didn’t happen,” Dr. Argenal recalls.
It was this experience that guided him toward an electronic health record (EHR). “When I made the decision to open my own pediatric practice, it was obvious to go with an electronic health record for the care of the patient,” Dr. Argenal shares. “I saw firsthand the value of being able to communicate electronically from the practice to the hospital where patients are admitted.”
