NYMU sees improvement in workflow, efficiency, and communication with referring physicians and physicians in training with EHR implementation
New York Methodist Hospital (NYMH) has selected Cerner SkyVue, an image viewing framework that enables enterprise-wide views of both DICOM and non-DICOM images alongside electronic medical records. The implementation is expected to improve workflow efficiency and communication among clinicians for improved patient outcomes at the Brooklyn-based hospital.
With 30 years’ experience in making healthcare safer and more efficient, Cerner has introduced a customizable user interface that uses a modular gadget-driven workspace in its new viewing framework, SkyVue. Using advanced visualization tools from strategic partners, SkyVue delivers a consistent view of a patient’s images which are seamlessly integrated within the patient’s electronic health record. Used across a continuum of care in the radiology department or health system-wide, images and media are stored, accessed, and shared, allowing clinicians more information and better communication, leading to better care.
“The nice thing about Cerner SkyVue is that in addition to the radiologist using the SkyVue system, it’s easily adaptable to the whole institution. It’s basically one system that anyone can use at any point anywhere within the hospital or institution,” said Dr. Russell Gibson, NYMH attending radiologist. “It’s improved our workflow and efficiency, as well as our ability to communicate with our referring physicians and physicians in training.”
Cerner’s comprehensive suite of imaging solutions includes a mammography management solution, cardiovascular suite, and physician scheduling, in addition to SkyVue. As the American College of Radiology (ACR) has designated NYMH a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the SkyVue implementation at NYMH will provide all clinicians in the facility with the same views of mammograms and other patient images in the context of the patient EHR, synergizing efforts across the hospital.
A member of the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System, nonprofit NYMH has access to top-ranking physicians and comprehensive resources. Accredited by the Joint Commission with a Gold Seal of Approval, the 591-bed acute-care teaching hospital has been serving residents of Brooklyn and its surrounding areas for 125 years. NYMH offers ten graduate medical education programs and four schools that provide training in allied health professions, and is affiliated with the Weill Cornell Medical College, an Ivy League medical school which ranks among the best in the U.S. in patient care, medical education, and research.
