Health System advancing community-based care with implementation of Allscripts Sunrise EHR

Heritage Valley Health System (HVHS) of southwestern Pennsylvania has selected Allscripts Sunrise EHR for its Beaver and Sewickley campus hospitals. The implementation is expected to improve operational excellence and has helped the organization within the first 90 days to successfully attest for Meaningful Use stage 1.

Already a customer of Allscripts, HVHS had used other products from the solutions provider. “Our decision to select Allscripts Sunrise was based on its open architecture and our success with the Allscripts Enterprise Ambulatory EHR,” said David Carleton, CIO of HVHS. “Within 90 days of activation we had integration with a regional Health Information Exchange (ClinicalConnect), and seamless access from Sunrise to our existing Clinical Data Repository containing over 18 years of clinical patient data. The evolving healthcare market requires vendors that can support a single unified record and rapid development of innovation solutions. The Allscripts platform provides those key attributes.”

The Sunrise solution for HVHS includes Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE), integrated pharmacy, bar-code medication administration, a patient portal, and acute and critical care solutions, as well as additional modules, Sunrise Access Manager and Sunrise Patient Financial Manager. “The Sunrise implementation at Heritage Valley Beaver and Sewickley campuses will move the health system further along in its pursuit of progressive, community-based care,” said Paul M. Black, president and CEO of Allscripts. “This expanded commitment will enable Heritage Valley to better care for its patients through our open architecture and integrated solution.”

Located north of Pittsburgh and serving residents of four counties in Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and the panhandle of West Virginia, HVHS is an integrated health network offering a broad range of medical, surgical, and diagnostic services. Its two hospitals, 361-bed Heritage Valley Beaver and 186-bed Heritage Valley Sewickley, are affiliated with more than 425 physicians at Heritage Valley Medical Group, Tri-State Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Heritage Valley Pediatrics. Care is also delivered at 14 community satellite facilities as well as at Staunton Clinic, a psychiatric outpatient facility which was awarded for Spirit of Excellence in Quality by Modern Healthcare and Sodexo for the development and implementation of a proactive treatment protocol for bipolar patients. In 2012, HVHS was named one of the Top 100 Integrated Healthcare Networks by IMS.
