EHNAC To Host Industry Forum On Mitigating OCR Audit Risk

Free webinar to feature panel discussion on how organizations can prepare for anticipated wave of 2013 OCR audits in light of changing regulations

The Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC), a non-profit standards development organization and accrediting body, recently announced a free 90-minute webinar that will discuss OCR audit preparedness. Scheduled for 1:30-3:00 p.m. EST, Dec. 10, the webinar, “Are You Ready for an OCR Audit?,” will examine how organizations can mitigate risk, prepare for and manage audits conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Civil Rights (OCR).

Host Lee Barrett, executive director of EHNAC, will be joined by healthcare and legal professionals with HIPAA, ARRA/HITECH and protected health information (PHI) expertise to answer questions related to OCR audits, and the implications to healthcare data privacy and security:

  • Sharon Klein, Esq., Pepper Hamilton LLP
  • William O’Byrne, Executive Director, NJ-HITEC
  • Jim Bettendorf, Director, Regulatory Affairs, GatewayEDI
  • Jonathan Flam, CFO, Healthfusion
  • Doreen Espinoza, Chief Business Development and Implementation Officer, UHIN
  • Ron Moser, Senior Auditor, EHNAC

“A large number of organizations have failed the audits and many reputable organizations face financial penalties and the fallout of being added to the OCR ‘Wall of Shame,’” says Barrett. “Through this educational webinar, we hope to educate organizations on how to reduce their risk of being identified for an audit or help them prepare for an impending visit from OCR’s audit enforcers, KPMG.”

In addition, panelists will discuss the impact of recent regulations emanating from HIPAA, ARRA, HITECH, the Affordable Care Act and other compliance mandates, as well as discuss case studies of organizations that have completed the audit process. They will also explore how to define an organization’s risk tolerance and implement strategies for addressing risk mitigation.

An open forum will follow the panel discussion to enable attendees to submit specific questions. Those interested in participating may register for the webinar here (https://www3.gotomeeting.com/register/805704982)
